Homemade Frozen Dogurt - Collie Style

One of our favorite year-round treats is homemade frozen yogurt or "dogurt" as we call it.  We make many varieties to keep it interesting for Logan, Brodie and Moira, but this one is the favorite.  This recipe makes enough to last about 3 months around here, but depending on the size of your dog, you might want to adjust the portions or cut the recipe in half.

Frozen Peanut Butter Banana Dogurt

  • 1 Cup Creamy Peanut Butter (organic is best - but Jif is OK too)
  • 2 Bananas - still slightly firm - not mushy
  • 1 Quart Vanilla Yogurt
  • 3 T Honey
  • 4 Old fashioned ice trays, or candy molds or mini muffin pans
Place all ingredients in mixer bowl and mix on medium speed until smooth. Spoon into molds and freeze overnight.  Then, remove from molds and store in gallon-size ziplock bag.  Very easy to dispense any time, as they do not stick together when you move them to the ziplock already frozen.  Take out only what you need.  Probably not a good idea to allow these to be eaten on the carpet - could get a little messy.  Makes about 48 ice cube size treats.

Moira wants you to know that licking the bowl and the spoon is mandatory.

Bone appetit!

  1. Sounds yummy, but that I do not like peanut butter. The bananas I would fight for though. Ma makes me banana frozen yogurt...yum!

OK...so a little hint...my friend Sugar the Golden Retriever (www.sugarthegoldenretriever.com) hosts a Tasty Tuesday blog hop every week! You need to post your yummy homemade treats on Tuesday so you can join it. Then everyone in the hop will come visit you (and you need to go and visit them, to make new friends). I will help you is you wish. You can find my email in my G+ profile or on my blog.

Once you get that down, there are other hops you can join to make new friends. Etiquette is you join and visit as many as you can; in turn, they will visit you. I have your back, new friends.

  2. that does sound good - I think we will have to wait for the temps to warm up before we try it :)

Here is our favorite cookies recipe ....you might want to try it :)
    Ingredients:
    1 egg
1/2 grated apple (squeeze juice out - I just put it in some paper towel and squeeze)
    1/2 cup grated carrot
    1/2 cup mashed banana
    1 tablespoon honey
1/2 teaspoon salt ( it helps dry them out)
1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour (I use rice flour for Reilly) You may need to add more or less flour depending on the humidity at the time.

    Directions:
    1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C). Lightly grease or line baking sheets.
    2. Stir together the egg, salt, apple, carrot, banana, and honey in a medium bowl; blend thoroughly. Stir in the flour mix well. Turn dough out onto a floured board and roll to 1/4 inch thick. Cut into desired shapes with a cookie cutter, place on prepared baking sheet.
    3. Bake biscuits in preheated oven until dried and golden brown, about 30 minutes, depending on size. Remove from oven and cool on a wire rack.
    4. Store in a sealed container.
